This assignment was one of my most time-consuming projects during my time at BCIT. This was for the Advanced Photoshop class in the third semester in the D3 program.
The job was to find a photograph and draw it in black and white using any of the painting and blending tools in Photoshop, any sort of selections, copying from the original, effects, or cloning was not allowed. I decided to choose a more challenging image and went with a promotional shot from one of my favourite shows Breaking Bad.
This assignment had strict rules, only brushes and blending was allowed to recreate the photo. We could not clone or copy from the original, make or fill selections, use any effects, or use any other image rather than an unedited photograph as the source material.
I redrew this photograph over the course of a week and continued to improve on it after instructor and student feedback over the next two weeks. This project was made possible by using my Wacom Cintiq Pro 13 drawing tablet.

Rather than creating a rough drawing of the entire photo and then adding detail afterward, I created the final product with full detail as I was going. This ended up being very time consuming but I finished with a project I am proud of.
Peer Review
After each week of the three-week project, my work was reviewed by my teacher and classmates. Fine details that were requested that I focus on include the patterns on the back of the seat of the car, the wrinkles in Walter’s face, and the details in Jessie’s jacket sleeves.
Wacom Tablet
This project was my first project that was completed using my Wacom Cintiq Pro 13. Setting up the tablet was very easy given the compatibility with BCIT campus computers and the live screen made the project much easier.
